Q. Currently I work as a Helpdesk Agent in the computer networks field. My major study was electrical power and machines but I changed my career . I'm thinking of returning back to my career , and work in Schneider
Which is a better , IT or electrical power engineering ??
Which is a better , IT or electrical power engineering ??
A. IT all the WAY!!! I studied Electrical Engineering at college, then I also got a job with a Corporate Helpdesk. But I took advantage of all the free courses on software development and project management they have at my company, Verizon. I've been able to get promoted up to more interesting positions. The Helpdesk is a good place to get a general feel for the company's network and it's applications. You can then combine that insider knowledge with your own skills in Network Design(Cisco certification perhaps?) or some development skill. I've grown to love the IT side because it allows you to delve into complicated IT topics but you still have the Human Engineering side to it. But then again.... if you really really miss the heavy math apect to power engineering maybe power engineering is in your path. But the biggest factor you would want to consider are the job prospects for EE's. Are PE's getting hired as much as Network Designers etc..? I would do some google research on the money question. Hope that helps. Good Luck.
Are IT helpdesk and IT support two different fields?
Q. I mean, maybe initially it might be hard to demarcate these two fields. What does these two jobs actually involve? Actually I am standing at crossroads now. I have to choose which field(career) to focus on. I am more of a technical guy, less a sales person. I prefer limited interaction with customers. I think IT support/Computer Technician might be a good starting point for me. Please let me know where can these fields lead me to. Actually, I have a Masters in IT(completed in 2006), I have theoretical knowledge of all the main areas like programming, databases, project management etc. But I have not been working in IT(Computers) for last 2 years. Please guide me.
A. Real knowledge is experiences, the rest are just theory.
Without disrespect, although you have a Master in IT, you are not qualify for the job.
Because without experiences, I don't think you can troubleshoot simple problems like
1) printer cannot print
2) display problem
3) windows error
4) virus problem
5) hard disk errors

i am looking for an application either online or software based that will track these informations.?
Q. does anyone know of an application that exists for what im looking for, maybe something like a helpdesk or related.
we are a hosting company that host many domains and on each domain we do custom programming for it. i am looking for an application that will track this information:
Customer Portal (where customers login and enter the bugs they found on their application)
Tracking the workflow of a project (from where the first person recieves it does his job and assigns it to the next person and so on)
ability to track customers information
ability to track billing for each customer
tracking which customer needs to be trained on the application
tracking account information for each customer.
and tracking bugs from the quality control department and assigning it to a programmer.
