Q.
A. Much the way we did before World War II, I expect. There were large rooms with rows and rows of desks with a typewriter and a typist at each desk, just to produce the documents one or two word processors can produce today. There were larger rooms with rows and rows of desks with an adding machine and a clerk at each desk, just to produce the documentation required for an ordinary corporation's bookkeeping chores. It was labor-intensive. And of course, many things we have today did not exist, but we got by. Or rather, my parents and grandparents got by.

what to do when you buy an airplane ticket online?
Q. i have to buy my airplane ticket today and i'm thinking of doing it online but the problem is that i don't have a printer... do i have to print anything when im purchasing my airplane ticket? if so what? Do i have to go to the library to print? Or should i just buy my airplane ticket online at home and not print anything... and then wait until they send me an e-mail? what am i suppose to do? Thanks :)
A. You do not have to print anything unless you are doing online check-in the night before or the day of your flight. However, it's very nice to have a record of the purchase, as it will contain some important information like your confirmation code and the price paid. You will need the confirmation code to check in no matter where you check in (airport kiosk, ticket desk or online). You may not want to rely on the airline email reciept for this info; while I've never had a problem with this info not being delivered, I would hate to be without it.
So you have three options:
--The easiest may be to set up a frequent flyer account with the airline so you can log back in and check the reservation at any time. Just set the account up before you purchase the ticket, and make sure you are logged in with that account when you buy. You can go back to your account any time and see your reservation details
--You can also make a "print screen" of the purchase confirmation page. To do this, you select the ALT key and the PrtSC key (which may double up with another key on your keyboard so it might not be as clearly or boldly marked) at the same time,. It will automatically copy to your clipboard. Then open a word processing software like MS Word, WordPad (not NotePad though) or an image software like MS Paint, and right-click then paste the captured image to this document. Save the file or even email it to yourself for a permanent record. These steps are for a Windows computer so if you're on a Mac the steps might be different.
--Or go to the library to print the confirmation but this is the most annoying as you have to leave the house, and least secure as putting in your credit card number in a public terminal is always risky
Worst case scenario if you do none of these, 99% of the time, the airline people can still find your reservation even if you don't have the confirmation email. But it's just easier to have your own documentation in case something goes wrong!
