Q. I have an adult domain name that I own, I bought it recently from ipower.com. The reason I didn't go with them for hosting is I wanted a host that didn't charge a setup fee when I pay a few months at a time.
I'd like to keep the domain with them if I can, and just have the traffic forwarded to where the site is hosted
The hosting I'm looking for has to offer each of these:
I want cheap hosting, about $10 to $15 USD a month.
Montly payments, or 2 payments at a time
file manager access where I can copy and paste htmlcode straight into a file
ftp access where I can upload photos
24 hour support tech support by phone
The hosting I need has to have all of the above. Does anyone know a company that offers all this?

What are the chances of me ever becoming a computer technician?
Q. I've been studying over the past couple of years and really want a career as a technician, but today I installed Windows Server R2 2008 and I cannot get to grips with it. I know some theory behind it... what the Domain Controllers, Active Directory, Server Roles & Features, network settings all are and the general idea behind them, but its getting them all to tie in together. I've made this computer a domain controller and given it a static IP address but when I go to connect a computer to the domain it states that the active directory DC cannot be contacted. Are these normal (teething) problems to be expected or am I going to have great difficulty?
A. Well, I used to feel like I was floundering when I was in school for computers. I went through 2 years of school for a degree in PC/Network Support, and then I moved on to ITT Tech and got a second degree in Computer Networking Systems. Classes were boring and rarely sank in and I never could get motivated to do the work required. I learned stuff, yeah, but when it came to actually implementing things in the real world I was just stuck. ITT Tech did give me some good hands on experience and it was there that I learned most everything I have used as a framework for everything I know now. The thing that REALLY helped me the most, however, was getting an internship. The hands on experience was by far the best teacher. My boss in the internship was and still is my biggest mentor in my Work and even my life. He actually went on to give me a full time job as his Helpdesk Analyst.
What you describe above is way ahead of the actually description of a Computer Technician. A computer technician is by and large a Mr. Fix It of the computer world. Replacing hardware, removing malware, installing software, and other mundane jobs. The Computer Technician is a dying trade. Computers are so cheap now that fixing them is nearly as much as just buying a new computer. In the age of throw away computers the technicians days are limited. I don't want to discourage you simply trying to inform you.
The work you have described falls more in the realm of a Windows System Administrator. This differs from the Windows Systems Engineer. The administrator maintains and debugs the system as it stands. The engineer designs, implements and integrates new systems or expands existing ones. Obviously the engineer can provide the same function as the administrator as well. So I wouldn't classify what you are trying to do as Computer Technician. I say you are well on your way to Systems Administrator status. I know you feel like you don't know a lot, but without a REAL solid application to put your knowledge to use with, everything you DO know feels like a loose end and everything you DON'T know feels like a mountain you just can't seem to climb. It gets better trust me.
These are some things you need to have down in order to expand your knowledge:
You need basic knowledge of TCP/IP protocol
Learn Windows Domain environments and know them well
Make sure you have a firm understanding of Active Directory and Group Policy
Be sure to understand how folder sharing and security works, (know the difference between Share Permissions and Folder security)
Some knowledge of DNS
As far as the current problem you are having. First if the domain controller role was set up correctly it should be reachable by IP address. From the computer you are trying to join to the domain make sure you can ping the IP address of the domain controller. If you can't then what is the IP address of the workstation computer? Is it part of the same subnet as the Domain Controller? By that I mean is the Domain Controller something like 192.168.1.10 and the workstation should have a 192.168.1.XXX address. If the IP address up to the third octet is the same for both machines then something is wrong within the network itself. Are you using VMWare or VirtualPC or are you actually setting up physical computers? Perhaps a bad switch or wire is keeping them from talking. These are the kinds of questions you'll want to be asking yourself as you progress into the IT world. Learn to ask questions, even if they sound stupid. If one person says no no no that's not the answer, second guess them, they may not always be right. My number 1 rule for everything, Google is your friend...and yahoo answers lol.
Sorry I wrote such a long response. I wish I could add more but I feel I should wrap up. Please feel free to contact me, I would love to chat more about things. If you wish to get in contact with me visit my sites. I have a youtube, a tumblr, and a twitter. They are all good ways to get in contact with me. If you want a more direct route we can exchange email addresses. I'm more than happy to lend a hand to someone who is in the same place I was a few years ago. Hopefully you'll find this message uplifting, and hopefully it gives you a brighter outlook for the future. My sites are below.

question about a IT analyst?
Q. what does a IT analyst do?
what is their yearly income?
how long do you have to go to school?

A. My husband is an IT Analyst so I asked him. He earns between $50k and $62k a year (depending on overtime). He went to school but did not complete, and got his current job based on pure experience in having the right skills, as well as honesty in the interview.
He's a jack of all trades, but between him and his other IT Analyst colleagues, they do databases, networking, software development, websites, Active Directory, Citrix, VMware, Linux, Windows, scripting, helpdesk, workstation deployment, server setup, etc.
