Q. i joined a UK based mnc some months back as software engineer. today i called up the HMRC helpdesk and asked for my UTR number (its needed for self-assessment and filing IT return) giving my NI number. But they said that its only for self-employed people. is that true? one of my colleagues has one and as far as i know, he is not self-employed!
A. You only have a UTR if HMRC want you to file tax returns. Employees with little or no other forms of income do not have to file tax returns (and cannot, unless told to be HMRC) and cannot therefore get a UTR.
If you are sent a tax return form the UTR will be printed on it.

I just downloaded a 90 min cassette to my computer but the file is too big to burn on the a CD. Any ideas.?
Q.
A. 'Resample' it to get it down to 80 minutes - I have done this a couple of times and it sounds fine (doesn't raise the 'pitch' of the recording, just speeds it up by a few percent...)
Hopefully the software you used has this feature??
Otherwise you can actually buy 90minute CD's, but your software needs to be able to be tweaked to accept them...

I've never tried them, but I'm considering having some for special projects.
Otherwise, it's just edit until you have cropped off the extra time - as far as I am aware, there is no other way, in short:
1) edit
2) resample
3) experiment with 90 minute CD's

I'm back in south africa, paid uk orange network to unlock my phone, 3 months later still no luck, what must i
Q. nokia 6630, paid them the requested 20 pounds to unlock, got codes, codes were incorrect, orange uk network "handset unlocking team" does not contact me, helpdesk has requested them to many times. handset is still locked to orange network 3 months later after payment ?
A. Bad thing is here is companies wanting money. now not all cells are like this but most new ones have fixed internal main boards set to a code that cant be changed by a keypad or software. they do that so if you switch carriers using a compatible phone that will work on any network the same they will loose money making u buy a new phone. imagine, 5 years ago no one really knew you could use a verizon made cell with alltel or sprint, vice versa. they dont want you to know alot of things. but as people get smart the company gets greedy and changes everything. in this case most are fixed and embedded and cant be changed.
now phones that can be changed, some have all flat same codes. while some models, have over hundreds or possibly millions of codes. they do this so a basic guy cant just go oh, motorola v265 phones use 00030 or what ever the code format is. they make so many using this code, so many using that code.somewhere in the phones serial# and build # the math is there to find the code, if you have the list of codes (can be hundreds of pages) you can find it. im not sure howto do this but was told by a friend that is high up in moto that the dealers have charts with codes listed and by adding, dividing a few numbers somewhere listed on the phone will give the page, line number to the correct code. crazy isnt it.
but it is possible that in your case, ou paid for codes but there policy prob is that we give you so many codes for that phone. basically they go with verizon, motorola, nokia, alltel and all companies. you pay so much for this, might be right, might not. you jsut supply the phone make and model and they give you the list starting at page 1. there could be hundreds or just a few pages. one to 50 lines of codes. its all a gimmick. thats how these corporatiosn make money, they get paid by the guy you pay to give out the codes. dont ask me why, but wouldnt it be easier for moto or verizon to give them out and not third party it?
i dont know about the phone makers, but cell carriers wont give them out unless you sign a new agreement or so. see what i mean, they all want money. thats why them guys in bmws are smiling, they think of ways tp rip us all off one way or another.
