Why is one better than the other?

Q. I read the specs for both of them and I can't figure out why the glaring rating difference? My best guess, it's subjective and I should ignore the "ratings". I was leaning towards the 2nd one. Btw.. is compaq a good company as HP and Toshiba's and Dell's or once again.. everyone has their "favorites"??

A. Did you read the specifications?

I went to the sites in your question and there is nothing to compare looking at the specs!

Glaring differences?
.
AMD Turion⢠64 X2 TL-50 OR older, slower 32 bit ⢠Mobile AMD Sempron⢠3400+

⢠100GB hard drive compared to ⢠80GB hard drive

64 X2 TL-50 is a dual core, 64bit Processor, don't even consider the Sempron!

100GB drive to a 80GB drive? Is that a question?

What is the average Help Desk Tech wage?
Q. Whats up everyone?? I am currently in my second year of college for an associates degree in Information Systems. I work for a 6 - branch local bank as a Help Desk Specialist. I feel that I am being cheated out of a few extra bucks an hour just so the bank can "save money". Can anyone maybe give me some ideas on what is an average $/hr for Helpdesk Specialist that oversees about 130 computers.?
Whats up everyone?? I am currently in my second year of college for an associates degree in Information Systems. I work for a 6 - branch local bank as a Help Desk Specialist and between the 6 branches there are only 2 IT people, me and our Network Administrator. I feel that I am being cheated out of a few extra bucks an hour just so the bank can "save money". Can anyone maybe give me some ideas on what is an average $/hr for Helpdesk Specialist that oversees about 130 computers.?

A. www.dice.com has a salary app that should tell you what others in your area are being paid.

In California, it can range quite a bit, depending on what type of environment and WHAT services you support.
For example, do you manage AD and Exchange? Servers? Backups? Website updates? New Employee Setups?

OR

Do you primarily just reset user passwords, install software and troubleshoot Windows?

If the latter.. then expect about $12-13/hr.

IF, however, you do more system administration, have some liability/responsibility for backups, servers, websites, etc.
Then about $20-25/hr. is typical.

The term "help desk" is a very generic term. SOME help desk personnel have certs and are basically system administrators. SOME help desk people are more "receptionists" and simply route the ticket to someone else.

The Help Desk Institute or HDI probably has a lot of information on their site, but they are usually geared towards HD Managers and those who run Call-Centers.
However they rate helpdesks from Reception Desks at the lowest end to Service Desks at the highest end.

The Engineering Firm I use to work for had a very High-End Service Desk. Our titles were Help Desk Analysts.. because we analyzed the situation.
We had MORE responsibility then the many of the system administrators who managed specific systems.
We took calls for roughly 10,000 employees. We managed the Exchange Servers, Active Directory. MIS systems, New Employee's, File Servers, File Recovery, SMS, software installs, Remote Support/VPN, Anti-virus software, Scheduling Loaner Equipment, Licensing, and Monitoring Local Techs and their workloads, for the entire company and took 30+ calls a day.
Average wage was about $25/hr.

A. Previous jobs should be written in the past tense, this will also have more impact as it will be worded as achievements. "Building a Fixed Assets to Project Accounting interface for daily depreciation." Becomes: * "Built Fixed Assets to Project Accounting an interface for daily depreciation." I assume you are a Software Developer, this should be clear. When talking about your CV you should identify your key skills and talk about how you have demonstrated your abilities. Talk about Situations, Task, What you did âhands onâ and what the results was (if any).
