Q. Is it going to be hard to find a job with a computer science degree in 2 years with a 2.75 GPA???
A. Even though programming and help desk support has been outsourced, other parts of the computer field are still growing strong since you still have to do a number of computer tasks onsite (unless you're in an area saturated with programmers, where competition for computer jobs is still intense). Here's what the US Dept of Labor's Occupational Career Handbook has to say about computer systems design:
The computer systems design and related services industry grew dramatically throughout the 1990s, as employment more than doubled. And despite recent job losses in certain sectors, this remains one of the 25 fastest growing industries in the Nation. Wage-and-salary employment is expected to grow 40 percent by the year 2014, compared with only 14 percent growth projected for the entire economy.
So what kinds of computer careers are hot:
-The demand for networking and the need to integrate new hardware, software, and communications technologies will drive the demand for consulting and integration.
-A need for more customized applications development and for support and services to assist users will drive demand for applications development and facilities support services.
-And, as more individuals and organizations conduct business electronically, the importance of maintaining system and network security will increase.
Here's the US Dept of Labor's description of the growth of the computer field, descriptions of the computer jobs that are growing, and computer job outlook and wages:

Good luck!

Q. I have to do inventory and need info like: Computer name, Processor, serial# Memory and things like that. Is there a script, app or anything like that I can use, or am I going to have to go to all 100+ machines individually? Any ideas?
Thanks for the quick response Colanth. Um, do you know the names of any of these commercial products?

A. I often recommend Crown Cayon Software's "CCS Network Inventory" product.
Go here to give it look:

*Note: They also offer Help Desk solutions that integrate with their network inventory product and Microsoft's Outlook.

A. Short for Software phones. It's a picture of a phone that you load onto your PC. Then, with a headset and microphone, you have a phone emulation that you can integrate into your contact manager and outlook.
