Can anyone recommend a free desktop assistance over network?

Q. I am in the IT department at work, second floor and admin staff are on ground floor.

sometimes we get some requests now and then which are really simple and it would be nice to remote desktop onto their computer and do the quick keyboard shortcut etc, obviously Remote Desktop isn't suitable as it creates its own login, Can anyone recommend a free lan based application that is like teamviewer/netsupport so i can see all the screens, monitor them and jump on their computer to give assistance all from the IT room.

Cheers

A. TightVNC. Lan-based, free, works great

Then there are a few other free tools that will really make your job of managing the network easier:
- Spiceworks (network monitoring/help desk): http://www.spiceworks.com
- PDQ Deploy (software deployment): http://community.spiceworks.com/product/27062-admin-arsenal-pdq-deploy
- Macrium Reflect - Free Edition (disk imaging/backup): http://community.spiceworks.com/product/14284-macrium-reflect-free-edition

should I leave my new IT job?
Q. I'm already through my second week of a new part time job I got for $10/hour (not the best and i've gotten paid way more before but better than nothing since im a full time computer science college student).

At first the job seemed great. The flexibility is unreal I can go in between classes and after, take a day off if I have to study ect.

However I'm a trained MCSE and CCNA and I'm trying to build more experience.

It's already been 2 weeks and I still have no real definition of what I was hired for. I go into work and half the time I can't find my boss so I sit and do homework or leave if I find out he left. When I do find him, he constantly has phone calls and e-mail checks so I sit and wait a lot of the time ( I don't blame him since he's only a year new as well and has to do 5 jobs at once).

Our "office"/cubicle is a storage room and I have to step over boxes, piles of papers and PC parts and CD's are everywhere and nothing is organized. It looks like an animal got loose in there but no one ever organizes stuff and i'm too new to know where anything goes, it'll take months to straighten that stuff out because there's no where for anything to go but the floor it's so packed.

Being introduced to that environment raises my stress level since I don't have a desk or anything, just a chair.

The network doesn't make sense, we have 3 class B subnets of 255.255.255.252 all static addresses (no dhcp is allowed for a reason I'm not sure of) but there's no inventory or documentation so I don't even know what systems are ours. Apparently we just have between 80-200 since no inventory has been done in a while and there's like 30 ip address in those subnets that aren't our machines! My supervisor said there's no organization structure or sense to it, just deal. It's fragmented.

I said I don't mind doing an inventory but I don't even know where to begin so I installed and tested Spiceworks for a week(free inventory software) and ran great and told me what was what and how things were mapped ect., they told me to take it off and "we can't have that"!

But there is no other alternative since there is no list's or documentation, or any sort of organization. there never was, you have to start somewhere. There is no help desk so people with probelms have to physically hunt us down and find us, spiceworks would have at least introduced some organization somewhat. I explained how spiceworks works to my boss and he just nodded and got a phone call and walked away. I never feel like i'm being listened too or heard and my supervisor said the manager above him isn't flexible and says things have to stay the way they are no if's and but's.

I'm still new and want to give this a chance and would feel great if I were the one to put organization into this network and such but im not even being heard. half the time im not doing anything because I don't know what I should do or where to begin and my boss if i can find him well just say "clone this" or "install this" .

when being interviewed (wasn't really an interview, he said your hired, your qualifications are great) he admitted they fired the last guy because he had no idea what he was doing and he's the one who designed the network.

I'm going to stay for the near term because there are no other openings and im lucky to have some sort of job. But the whole point of applying for a job while in college was to build a skill set and experience. At first I thought it was great, that I could start somewhere and re-organize the network (they are migrating soon) However if they won't let me do anything or hear me out on anything (no one else there is certified or knows what the hell they are doing) then how can I build any sort of skill set or experience. I guess I just have to shut up and come in and ask what there is to do or just do what i'm told.

Sorry i'm just frustrated.

A. Welcome to the tech industry, everyones a 10 T...

A. System management deals with the functions and control of any system that includes pc,washing m/c,fridge,etc...
Now v shall deal the system management of pc

SYSTEM MANAGEMENT OF PC

Systems management refers to enterprise-wide administration of distributed computer systems. Systems management is strongly influenced by network management initiatives in telecommunications. The most known systems management systems are IBM Tivoli Framework, Microsoft Systems Management Server, HP OpenView, LANDesk, Novell ZENworks, BMC Patrol and CA Unicenter.
Functions
Functional groups are provided according to ITU-T X.700 standard.
Configuration management
â¢Hardware and software inventory
â¢Provisioning, software deployment and package management
Security management
â¢Identity management
â¢Policy management
Fault management
â¢Troubleshooting, error logging and data recovery
Performance management
â¢Software metering and event monitoring
Accounting management
â¢Billing and statistics gathering
Note:
You have to study the detail sections about each management functions separately and it will be interestingâ¦

However this standard should not be treated as comprehensive, there are obvious omissions. Some are recently emerging sectors, some are implied and some are just not listed. The primary ones are Real-time Application Relationship Discovery which supports Configuration Management, Security Information and Event Management functions (known as SIEM), Workload Scheduling, Business Impact functions (also known as Business Systems Management) and Capacity Management. Performance Management functions can also be split into end-to-end performance measuring and infrastructure component measuring functions.
