Q. I am talking about computer software. Besides the ol windows operating system and MAC. did anyone ever bother to look at the other side? I have been using Linux for 4 years ( ubuntu , linux mint, fedora) and i have never loved my computer the way i do now. Windows VISTA was the last operating system that i used out of microsoft ( used for only 2 months). So is there anyone else out there that used and loves the flexibility of linux? I love that i can actually tweak EVERYTHING on teh system to my specific liking. Do you feel that Linux is Underrated? shouldnt linux get WAY better market share than 2.13%?
If you tried something else please tell about it and what you feel. I have tried BSD ( did not stick with it). and planning on opensolaris next. suggestions?

A. I started out using a VAX in college. My first personal computer was an Amiga. It was later modified to run AmigaBSD instead of AmigaOS. I then got a Windows machine since I was working a helpdesk and needed more Windows experience, but installed Linux for the first time circa 1994. I remember it was a huge stack of floppies, and it didn't have a GUI. I used Red Hat for several years, then switched to SUSE before settling on Ubuntu a few years ago. I also run Windows and Mac OS on various computers. I played with OpenSolaris for a while but wasn't impressed.
Linux has its place. Its made a lot of progress since I first started using it. However, it's still not quite there for the average user. I do tech support and have far too many users whose understanding is limited to "I click on the blue icon in the middle of the screen and then press a certain sequence of buttons". I love it, but I think there's still work to be done. It'll get there eventually.
