Is it possible to download the instillation software for a Logitech Analog Controller for PC?
Q. I just bought a Logitech Dual Analog Game Controller for a computer from RadioShack. It comes with a mini disc instillation CD for it, and I installed it and everything on my DESKTOP, but thing is, I bought it for the convenience of using it on my LAPTOP, which unfortunately doesn't have a CD drive.

What good is having a game controller if the only way I can use it is by sitting at my desk for hours playing my favorite game? Anyways, my question is, Is there anyway to download the instillation software that came on the CD fro mthe internet somewhere? I mean, I googled it, and it looks liek it's possible, but I'm not sure exactly what to download or even what I'm looking for. I found links to download software for a Logitech dual GAMEPAD that was under the category of "joystick", but I'm not quite sure, is a gamepad the same as a game controller?

Can anyone give me links as to where I could download the software safely and freely?

~Windows XP operating system, Logitech Dual Action Analog Controller

A. you can do one thing........... you can go to a pc and copy the softwares of the disc to a pendrive.............. but you can also download it.............. it's free...............just go to www.thepiratebay.org .............there type the name of the software you want and click on softwares and then search........ there download the software.............it's a small file and downloads quickly............... then go to www.utorrent.com ............and download and install the software there............. after you've installed it............ you'r previously downloaded torrent file (the small file you downloaded first) will have a utorrent icon................... just double-click it and wait for the software to download.................... after its downloaded just install it............... there you are.............the software is there in your laptop.......................

Reformatting Laptop? & overheating?
Q. I want to completely clean out my laptop so it's in like new condition. I want only what originally came on the laptop to be back on it, fresh, clean, etc.

I have a compaq presario and it did not come with a reboot disc, instead it tells me to create my own.

If I reformat, will it erase everything I've acquired on this laptop? I seem to remember an ex boyfriend reformatting a desk top I had about 5 years ago, but it did not just give me a like new computer. Instead, as soon as you turned it on, it would ask you what you would like to run on, the old desktop, or the new reformatted one. I know for a fact I'm not explaining it right.. lol. but basically I just want everything off this laptop. I've tried just uninstalling things and moving things to an external HD, but it only freed up about 10 gigs of space. I just want this to be as close to brand new again as possible so I don't have to buy another one.

If anyone could give me info it'd be greatly appreciated.

Also, on a side note, the battery seems to get really hot. It has only actually overheated on me once - I was wondering if there is anything I can do to fix this? I know like with the xbox 360's overheating problem you can put thermal compound on the GPU (or CPU, i forget which now) to fix it.

A. Never download anything off a "torrent" because the malware people put up their malware disguised as other software.

If the laptop is telling you to create a reboot disc, then PLEASE create a reboot disc. You might need 2 DVD discs. Use only major brand names like Sony, Maxell, Memorex, Imation, etc. Do not use the cheapest you can find.

=====

I don't know about Compaq laptops or your ex boyfriend's desktop, but I have a Compaq desktop from 2005 that has a "recovery partition" - that recovery partition was able to :

1. Reinstall the factory software to the C: partition on the hard drive.

2. Create "factory software" discs - even if I took out the hard drive, put in a new hard drive, I could use these "factory software" discs to reinstall ALL of the factory software just as new. I've done it several times, I removed the original hard drive (to preserve everything on it) and put in the new hard drive and started over. Easy.

You can get new hard drives for much less than $100 these days, and if you can find used ones from a computer repair shop, even less - I bought a 40 GB SATA hard drive for another old computer recently for $19.00 and could have bought an 80 GB SATA hard drive for $29.00 but really don't need that much capacity at this time in that old computer. Oops. My mistake. Those are for a desktop, not a laptop. Used laptop hard drives cost more.

==========

You can use a disk imaging program to make your own backups in addition to the factory software discs; I use a commercial program called Acronis True Image, it can be bought off the shelf at stores like Frys or Best Buy, depending on what they have in stock, or online from these companies - you get the retail box, or download from Acronis.

The CD in the retail box can be booted and can make images without installing the Acronis program on the computer at all. It can create CDs, DVDs, and can put the image on an external hard drive (which is very very convenient and makes restorals fast).

Installation makes other features of the True Image program available, but they are not necessary if one just wants images of the hard drive.

==========

Regarding the battery getting hot, you might have a really bad dust buildup inside the laptop, after all, the fan pulls air in to cool the innards but that makes it like a slow-motion vacuum cleaner, pulling in dust too.

Wikipedia article about computer cooling, scroll down:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_cooling

You did not say how old the battery is, but the batteries inside most laptops are lithium batteries and these have a limited lifespan with a limit on how many charge-discharge cycles they can use. Your battery might be aged out and/or the charge-control electronics within the battery pack might be going bad. A replacement battery can cost over $100.00 but that's the way it is for laptops.

Thermal grease is for the chips and heatsinks; it fills the tiny gaps between the "flat" surfaces to enable more efficient heat transfer. There is no use for thermal grease within the battery pack.
