A. Hello,

-> First of all check if your laptop was G or N wifi card.

-> Then check the link I posted to see what router fits for your needs.

-> Then when you buy a new wireless router you should install its software on your pc so you can configure your ISP password/user name and it's security features.

-> You must know security is a big issue so you must configure your router to the highest security and use a very good password.

-> However should read the manually carefully for how to configure your new router.

--Set your SSID
--Enable Encryption
--Set WEP(64 bit) you should need to pick a really good password.
--Mac Address Filtering on
--And use DCHP server on so you can have dynamic IP.

-> Also you can connect your desktop pc via ethernet cable again or you can buy a new wifi card but that's not necessary.

-> Further more you can have some access points on your house so you will be 100% that you will have a strong wifi signal everywhere in your house.

-> Or you can try a repeater if you donât want to spend on an extra access point then try a repeater. What a repeater does is receive the WiFi signal then repeat it hence the name. But it means that the repeater must be inside the range of the WiFi network, otherwise it wonât receive a signal in the first place. Linksys, Netgear and Belkin all make repeaters, and theyâre typically quite affordable. The added extra is that they do not require an extra cabling as they receive the signal wirelessly instead.

-> Finally don't forget to mount your router on the wall.

Thank you in advance
Alex G.
