Q. I did a software update Thursday night which just gave me the new Itunes and other pointless crap. Now my mac is running slow. It takes longer than usual to pull up a web page. It only seems slower on the internet. I have the macbook pro 13.3 inch, 4G. I don't understand why its going slow because I just bought in August... It shouldn't be running like this! Do I have a bug or what's wrong?!
A. All right Mac answers ......Your last update has some issues don't know your OS that you jumper to yet I have to believe it was Apples latest update. Many have had problems with iTunes 10 and the Security Update as well.
Could you run 'Disk Utility' type that in 'Spotlight' thats in the top right had corner and run it. Go to this website and follow the instructions from ''Repair Disk Permissions' on down' http://kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/page.php?id=3810 that will rule out the Permissions.
Other options is to do a Back Step or if you were using Time Machine back step from there. Last one to consider is try creating a new account and log into the new account and see if the problems exist in there.....here are a few videos on showing how to create another account 'Apple does this all the time'.

As to iTunes yeah your right about the extra Crap like do I really need .....'Ping'?
UPDATE:
Try running the following update download the file then run it, it should work.
10.6.4 Combo Update

The real bummer is that 10.6.5 Build 10H529 is still in Beta

Windows 7 Home Premium Family Pack _ Install on 3 Mac OS-Xs?
Q. I am in an architecture school and was assigned a project in which we need windows. In order to cut costs, the students are wanting to buy a single copy and split the Windows software between the Mac computers.
I understand that the Home Premium Family package comes with 3 licenses so that you could install the program on 3 home computers. Will this system work between three of us (mac) users installing Windows through BootCamp? Or will we need to buy individual copies?
Your help is very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Austin

A. The license is meant to be used among family members in the same household. However, there's a better potential solution. Check with the helpdesk for the school. Most universities offer MS software at a huge discount to students. I've worked at some where they sell Windows to students for $30 or less. See if your school offers this kind of discount.
For SUNY New Paltz and Oswego students? (current)?
Q. Does anyone have a mac instead of a PC? Will they allow people onto the network with a mac computer? On the website I only saw instructions for PC's?
Thanks, I couldn't find those pages when i searched their websites. Do you think you could check SUNY Binghamton for me too please? I'm sorry, I have checked but can't seem to find it and you were able to find it on the other two websites. Thanks so much.

A. I'm not a student at either, but I'm a librarian so I did some digging:
For SUNY Oswego, they have a computer lab that includes 10 Macs: http://www.oswego.edu/cts/labs/penfield_lab.html
Another page ( http://www.oswego.edu/cts/orientation/orientation_faq.html ) states:
"Do you recommend Apple Mac computers?
We recommend that you choose a computing platform that you are already comfortable with. The College Store offers both Apple and Dell computers at academic discount prices. Certain majors may require a certain platform or software package, so you may wish to check with the department of your major."
On that same page, they have some info about the wireless network: "The wireless system works with Mac OS 10.4 and above"
For SUNY New Paltz, they have some Mac labs: http://acs.newpaltz.edu/labs/ . And according to this page, it looks like they support Macs: http://acs.newpaltz.edu/resnet/requirements/ and so does their help desk: http://www.newpaltz.edu/helpdesk/
I hope this information helps!
