Can't get my webcam to work with messenger.?

Q. I just got a Perfect Image Webcam 1.3M made by GE. It works when using the video impression software that comes with it, but once i try to use it with yahoo messenger, all that comes up is a graphic for Magic I, which is another program that came with the webcam. I tried the manufacturer but they said it's a problem with messenger.

Someone please help me, I don't want to have wasted the money I spent on this.

A. Try this Click start lower left on your desk top, then click control panel then double click sounds and audio devices. Click audio tab ensure your speakers and mic are the default devices do the same with the voice tab. If not change them and click o.k. You can also check your equipment while you are there. Also click actions top line of the messenger window, scroll down and run voice setup. Also click messenger top left, scroll down and click preferences then scroll down and click webcam where you can make adjustments, click o.k. To make sure it is o.k. click messenger top left, scroll down and click my webcam. and your webcam should come on. You should also run your call setup. Click actions top row of the messenger window scroll down click call setup and follow the prompts. When you are chatting with someone click on webcam in the chat window. I hope that is of some help. My own opinion is that if you are going to be webcamming regularly download windows live messenger to me it is far better than Yahoo messenger

Screenwriters and Filmmakers - Any validity to the McKee "Story" Seminars?
Q. Have you taken his seminar or know folks who have? Is it complete BS, hype, a good starting point, and/or the real deal?

$745 for the Seminar; $895 for the Seminar plus Final Draft software vs. film school tuition vs. other seminars/instruction you would take?

A. McKee's seminar is good theater if not expensive theater. However, you can buy his book for $45 and all the info is there with diagrams. You can also sign up for a free 14 day trial on audible.com and download a free copy of story read by Mr. McKee himself. Even if you cancel the subscription, you get to keep the audio book.

I'm not a big fan of seminars but I did take script development course at the Vancouver Film School. That was money well spent as VFS tends to have working writers teach their screenwriting courses. So they provide you with useful knowledge rather than theoretical BS.

A good free source of info on the writing life is the Creative Screenwriting podcast you can subscribe via Itunes or go direct to the source at their website.

Being creative is great but I constantly see a lot of format errors in the screenplays that cross my desk. Not to mention, poor character development and cliche situations. Even the stuff forwarded by an agent seems pretty bad these days. Hone your craft and learn how to use structure to your advantage to accentuate creativity. Dara Marks' new book is an interesting read and worth a look.

I like FD but I've been using it for some time now. Others swear by Movie Magic Screenwriter. It's a personal choice thing, so whatever one you like.

But yeah, McKee is good for a laugh in person but more than a bit out of most people's price range. And regardless of what he and his ilk teach, this is not a game for everybody.

I'm a produced screenwriter with feature film and TV credits.
